Wildlife Viewing Technician

Just as I was losing hope of getting a job that was actually interesting, my random resume submissions worked out. I was to the point of considering waitressing or learning how to make a mochacinno just to pay the bills at least until I could find something I liked.  I had come to rest on the understanding that any job I got would be through the people I know rather than searching want ads and the employment office.

Then, out of the blue on my first week back in Whitehorse after the holidays, I get a call from someone in the Wildlife Viewing programme at Environment Yukon.  My resume had some how come across his desk and they were looking for a last minute fill for the position of Wildlife Viewing Technician.  Having never heard of such a position I was confused but have been nominated for an Oscar for my ability to pretend like I had any idea what I was talking about.
I came into the office on Monday for an interview whereupon I was asked if I had any experience coordinating the large scale events.  Quickly I racked my brain for specific examples that would highlight just how amazing I am at organising large events, not to mention highly intelligent, diligent, and trustworthy, and and and…During my articulate mumbling and stuttering that felt like uncontrollable word-vomit I manage to use my “WORDS” and say something about Girl Guides.  The interviewer really perked up at this and surprisingly asked me more about my involvement with Girl Guides.

4 days later…

I get a call with sketchy cell phone reception just outside of Haines Junction from the HR woman looking to set up my payroll and personal account info.  Turns out I got the job as Wildlife Viewing Technician and my primary responsibility will be to coordinate the Celebration of Swans, an annual bird watching festival that celebrates the coming Spring “on the wings of the swans”.  I work in the Wildlife Viewing Office at Environment Yukon with a biologist and another technician and a bunch of stuffed birds…though no stuffed swans.

3 weeks later…

I still haven’t posted anything regarding my new job!!  It’s really annoying but this full time work thing really eats into my day, and suddenly I don’t have time to write short novels about every little thing that is going on.  I supposed this is a good thing but I have no time to loll around now…jeeze.  So very quickly,  I work in an office with 2 super good natured guys surrounded by a community of stuffed birds and mammals

    Well congratulations on the job!

So what exactly have you been co-ordinatifizing? Post pictures of your work with stuffed animals! You should totally have a duck-blind in your office.

Your cubicle should be a duck-blind!

And you can have a snickering dog (duck hunt)!

    I need less caffine…
