Why am I in Whitehorse?2
admin posted in Uncategorized on June 9th, 2006
I’m in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in order to conduct research for my Masters Thesis at LU. Over the next 2 months I’ll be interviewing community members who volunteer with outdoor recreational organisations in the area. This includes everything from dogsled racing to softball, and whitewater canoeing to birding! I’m investigating how these forms of involvement make people feel connected to their community and impacts personal health and well-being. All of this will be understood using terms and concepts from the social economy framework. This link will take you to the Social Economy Research Network for Nothern Canada for whom this project is being conducted and my connection to Yukon College http://ycweb.yukoncollege.yk.ca/nri/sernnoca/. It’s complicated and it’s not supposed to be but don’t ask me to define social economy for you. No one can seem to agree on one definition and I’m not about to start arguing with people.
I’ll be in Whitehorse until about mid-July and I just hope that I remember to get some work done in between all my playing:)
