Why am I in Whitehorse?
admin posted in Uncategorized on June 9th, 2006
I’m in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in order to conduct research for my Masters Thesis at LU. Over the next 2 months I’ll be interviewing community members who volunteer with outdoor recreational organisations in the area. This includes everything from dogsled racing to softball, and whitewater canoeing to birding! I’m investigating how these forms of involvement make people feel connected to their community and impacts personal health and well-being. All of this will be understood using terms and concepts from the social economy framework. This link will take you to the Social Economy Research Network for Nothern Canada for whom this project is being conducted and my connection to Yukon College http://ycweb.yukoncollege.yk.ca/nri/sernnoca/. It’s complicated and it’s not supposed to be but don’t ask me to define social economy for you. No one can seem to agree on one definition and I’m not about to start arguing with people.
I’ll be in Whitehorse until about mid-July and I just hope that I remember to get some work done in between all my playing:)

How is the Northland treating you?
I just got back from a weekend down in the London area with Jordon’s family and we saw funnel clouds on our way home. I was also the only one to brave Lake Huron for a swim…silly folks from the south! Are you managing to get any work done?
I’m a summer school teacher!!!! I tried to write that as excitedly as possible seeing as I’d rather run headfirst into a tree right now. I have no desire to go into a hot, smelly, sweaty classroom all of July to wrangle kiddos who were unsuccessful the first (some second, possibly third) time through a course. I only did this as a career move and I’m dreading the month. I don’t know what else I would do for that month of my life….probably complain of being bored (potentially go visit you)….but teaching summer school wasn’t at the top of my list of things to do. Oh well…atleast I get science courses!
Sarah and Tanner moved their wedding up to Dec 27th-Jan3rd. I can’t afford to go
Can folks read what I’m writing to you about? I might have to rethink this “post a comment” idea.
Love and miss you!

Why is your blog saying this post was in 2006? :/
I’ll try to figure it out later. And here I thought I’d fixed it. Sorry.
